Tilawah does not rely on one server to carry the sound. It uses WebTorrent to exchange pieces of a recording between listeners, so your device receives the audio from other devices playing the same recording, and can share back the pieces it received.
If Tilawah finds no peers within 8 seconds, it starts fetching the pieces from the project server, capped at 1 MB/s per connection.
Listening to the Quran needs no account. If you want your favourites and settings synced between two devices, create a ring and carry its key across with a QR code.
The recordings in Tilawah come from the Itqan community catalogue (itqan.dev), published through its Fanar platform for Quranic content; rights remain with the reciters and publishers.
Tilawah is an open-source project: you can read the code and contribute to it.
